What is the comfort setting on a Toshiba dehumidifier? ›

Be sure to unplug the unit before cleaning to prevent shock or fire hazards. The appearance of the control panel may vary slightly by model. Press to activate the comfort dehumidifying operation. When COMFORT function is turned on, set humidity level is automatic and cannot be changed manually.

The light indicates that the filter needs servicing. It will not keep the unit from operating. But you need to clean that filter.

The only way to really defrost a dehumidifier is to let the ice melt over time. To ensure it does, turn the unit off and drain out the water from its tank. Try to place the dehumidifier in a warmer environment, like a warmer room. But do not expose it to heat directly as that can damage it.

To get your manually-controlled dehumidifier up and running, set its humidity level. You want it set at 30 – 50%. If there's too much moisture, you'll get dampness and mould. If there's too little moisture, your home will be too dry and attract bacteria.

Keep your dehumidifier set to 30-50% to eliminate excess dryness or moisture. Don't leave your dehumidifier facing a wall (this will block the vents & prevent it from doing its job)

Comfort mode will automatically set the humidity to 50%. How do I control the humidity? The readout on the unit is the Humidity the unit is set to, not the temperature. Humidity is measure by relative concentration of water vapor in the air.

We suggest keeping your humidity level at 45 to 50 percent. While you can adjust it slightly based on your comfort level, this range is recommended for healthy indoor air. Higher humidity levels result in mold and mildew, while lower levels can result in bacteria-based sicknesses.

Repurpose your dehumidifier

Both machines have an AP mode which stands for Air Purification Mode. Selecting this mode on the display turns off the dehumidification cycle and just runs the fan.

The dehumidifier uses filters that can become clogged; if these filters are not cleaned, the machine will not run as efficiently as it should.

Depending on environmental conditions, you may need to replace it more often. Do not run your dehumidifier without a filter in place.

If your dehumidifier keeps shutting off, the sensor may not be reading the humidity level correctly, resulting in the unit shutting off before reaching the desired level. Some dehumidifiers also have a thermistor that works with the sensor which can also be faulty.

If your dehumidifier coils are freezing up and the room temperature is above 65 degrees Fahrenheit, there may be an issue with the blower wheel or fan blade. These two parts facilitate the air flow which is necessary for a dehumidifier to keep the condenser coils from freezing up.

Press the PURGE key to empty water from the pump reservoir. During normal operation, the pump purges automatically every six minutes, or whenever the reservoir is full.

When the room temperature falls below 60F, the unit will go into an Auto Defrost (electronic controls) or Auto Frost (knob controls) mode to remove frost from the coils before starting dehumidification again. During the defrost cycle the compressor turns off but allows the fan to continue running.

According to the Environmental Protection Agency, the best indoor relative humidity falls between 30% and 50%, and it should never exceed 60%. Other studies suggest 40% to 60% is a better range. Regardless, 60% seems to be the agreed-upon threshold for indoor humidity.

People typically find a relative humidity between 30 to 60 per cent most comfortable. Relative humidity is a way of describing how much humidity (or water vapour) is in the air, compared to the maximum amount the air can hold at that temperature.

ASHRAE Standards specify ideal comfort ranges of 68º to 74º at 40% to 60% relative humidity in the winter months and 73º to 79º at 40% to 60% relative humidity in the summer months. To effectively evaluate current indoor conditions, you'll need to measure room relative humidity and temperature.
